S&P Computersysteme GmbH was engaged by the general contractor for automated warehouse systems to implement the application software for the warehouse management computer. The SuPCIS system was used, whose standardised core functionality was enhanced to meet customer-specific requirements. 

The following process organisational systems are managed in the warehouse of Good Time Holding:

  • Goods receipt
  • Storage preparation
  • Automated high bay warehouse as a replenishment warehouse and for the removal of large quantities with 9,500 pallet locations, 9 aisles and 2 retrieval machines with transfer bridges
  • Manually operated flow racks as picking warehouse (6 shelves with a total of 3,000 flow channels and a throughput of 5000 picks per shift)
  • Manually operated special warehouse
  • Automatic conveyor systems
  • Order merging 

From an IT technology standpoint, the warehouse management computer is embedded in the following hierarchy:

Enterprise and operational control level: COMET on SIEMENS RM400 under SINIX
System control level: Warehouse management computer with SuPCIS-L
System and process level: SIEMENS SMP material flow computer for the control and management of the retrieval systems and automated conveyor systems

About Good Time Holding

Kiddinx Entertainment GmbH (their spelling: KIDDINX) is a German sales and marketing company for audio dramas, music, animated films and software for children. Their most well-known brands are the children’s radio dramas Bibi Blocksberg and Benjamin the Elephant. 

Kiddinx is a subsidiary of Good Time Holding GmbH. With over 150 million audio dramas, DVDs, computer and console games sold, Kiddinx is the largest provider of enterprise media for children in Germany.

Due to ever-growing sales, the consolidation of the entire logistics system at Good Time Holding and to optimise logistical workflows in shipping, a new distribution centre was built in Groß-Kienitz/Brandenburg.

  • Whole-carton removal from the high bay warehouse; parts picking in the picking warehouse
  • Plausibility checking of carton picking by automatic weighing
  • Picking in the picking warehouse based on route-optimised picking lists
  • Minimum inventory monitoring in the picking warehouse with automatic replenishment from the high bay warehouse
  • Bypass handling
  • Document issue for order merging and packaging
  • Continuous inventory in the automated warehouse
  • Creation of goods receipt notices or delivery note as emergency operation

Hardware and system software

BM RS/6000 with AIX operating system and Oracle Server database.

8 PCs are connected as workstations through a TCP/IP network.

The host connection is also implemented as file transfer (FTP) over TCP/IP - data exchange takes place in short cycles. The connection to the underlying control system is a serial interface using 3964R.
